Today we finally wrapped up Christmas and Mayhem’s birthday celebrations. Yes, I do realize it’s mid-January, but travelling + illnesses = delayed celebrations.
Anyhoo, this morning Mayhem and I got to work prepping a birthday cake, and we decided to snapchat (follow us: fashionbymayhem) our progress. And it turns out LOTS of people were curious about the recipe, so I thought I’d hop on here and link up the recipes we used.
We have a thing about homemade birthday cakes around here and due to Mayhem’s food allergies, “from scratch” is the way we go. A few days ago when trying to decide what type of cake we should make, I remembered my pal Amy sharing an insta of a snickerdoodle cake. Mayhem LOVES snickerdoodle cookies, so this seemed like a slam dunk.
Google search: snickerdoodle cake recipe …
I read through the first few results and stumbled on the perfect for us recipe. So without futher ado, I give you the links:
Snickerdoodle Cake and Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting (both from Foodie with Family.)
We followed the recipes pretty much exactly and the results were AMAAAAAAAZING! Seriously, total win.
It almost made up for the fact that we were unable to locate the “6” candle that we bought at the grocery store yesterday. ALMOST. (For real, I swear it grew legs and walked off on it’s own.)
Are the roses a different frosting? I just might have all those supplies and if I’m right it looks like tomorrow will be cake day!
The roses are the same frosting, I just added some food coloring for those 🙂 And YAY for cake day (lucky for us, we have leftovers)! Enjoy.
My friend told me you guys were whipping up my cake. You have the most adorable sous chef even if you do have two of the world’s worst hand mixers ?. Those rosettes look gorgeous, too! Thanks for sharing the cake and links!!
Thanks for providing such awesome recipes!!! The cake and frosting both got RAVE reviews and this one is going into the regular birthday cake rotation. And now I know why “real” bakers have those stand mixers …;-)
Love the look of the cake! So pretty! Could you please share how you made the roses?
Thank you so much! I learned by watching a few videos on I Am Baker’s website. Here’s a link to one of her videos: http://iambaker.net/patriotic-rose-cake-video-tutorial/
She’s fantastically talented and equally funny and this technique is really easy peasy. If I can do it, anyone can 😉
Love this! What a beautiful cake.
Off to make my birthday cake right now! We do at home as well 1. Because it is more special and made with love and 2. We need it to be safe from nuts for my daughter and I eat gluten free. Andrea’s flour (GF and Nut Free) is the BEST in cookies, cakes, etc. My carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is AMAZING! Glad she had a special cake–it looks very pretty!!
