This year is going down as my best hair year yet. And not because I embraced my gray. No m’am. Not there yet.
BUT, I did make one life changing hair decision. I bought a Beachwaver (1.25 inch size.) And I’ve never, in my entire life, received more compliments on my hair than I have this year.
Honestly, I’m kind of pissed off at myself for not making the purchase sooner. I mean, I looked at the Beachwaver a bazillion times and spent a full year trying to decide if I should spend the money. And then one day, I listened to a podcast and one of the women mentioned how the Beachwaver was a game changer for her. I happen to follow this woman on Instagram and had noticed how good her hair always looked.
So I bit the bullet, forked over my $129, and crossed my fingers.
There are a few things you should know about my hair history: I’m an extremely slow learner/adopter. I remember the day I first used a straightening iron and wanting to kick myself for not purchasing one approximately ten years earlier. Because my hair has natural curl/wave that responds to any humidity in a ‘Monica Geller in Barbados’ kind of fashion.
For years and years and years, I didn’t realize that different types of shampoos/conditioners/hair products would actually have different effects on my hair. And I’ve had a tendency to not invest in quality hair tools because “is there really that much of a difference?”
Yes. Yes there is, Angie.
During the podcast, the woman who raved about the Beachwaver noted that she did experience a bit of a learning curve with using it. And truthfully, I was pretty afraid of that. I already owned a (super cheap) curling wand and struggled to make my hair ever look decent with it. Actually, I could make it look OK-ish, but the humidity here in the south would render my efforts useless, as soon as I’d step outside.
But my experience with the Beachwaver could literally not be better. There was no learning curve for me, my hair looked amazing the very first time I used it. I plug it in, turn it on (I keep the temperature set to 350 degrees) and it heats up in under 20 seconds. I section my hair and have it done in under 15 minutes. Let’s just go ahead and call it what it is – a Magical Wand of Hair Awesome.
And throughout the summer, my hair didn’t lose all of it’s curl when it met with humidity. Nope. More often than not, I just pulled it back into a ponytail because I couldn’t handle my neck sweating, but that’s another story. And now that we’re past the ultra humid season, I’m getting way more milage from my hair styling. At least two to three days. And I used to be one of those people who HAD to wash their hair every.single.day. Not anymore. Now, when I style it with the Beachwaver, it looks fantastic for a few days, which means I’m washing it less, which means my color is lasting longer too. Which means that by spending the $129, I’m actually saving, right?! That’s what I’m telling Keith, anyway.
Win-win-win.
My only regret with this purchase is not having made it a year ago.
