The demand to wear an Aquadoodle mat as a dress with a j crew belt and Mr. Potato Head glasses meant her crazy dress ups were reaching new heights. Growing tired of finding articles of my own clothing strewn about her room, I suggested we make a dress from paper. She was in. This was our first. And the day she unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper, we decided it would be easier to make a dress out of it than to re-roll it. The paper dresses began to take on new styles. Some were winners. Some were not. On this day, we discovered an entire roll of athletic tape could become an amazing super hero outfit. Anything bendable can work. As our dress making was becoming a regular routine, she figured out how to make them entirely on her own. This was her first solo creation. Pretty soon, she began making character request. And then finding new ways to decorate her creations. So we figured a book would be a good idea… She even made dresses on her own when there was a babysitter. Fabulous headpieces began to emerge. And awards shows began serving as new inspiration. Tulle was introduced into the mix. Tissue paper was pulled from the closet. She hyperventilated the day I told her that there was a show all about making dresses. And she chose this as her first Project Runway inspiration dress. Heading into the holidays, we pulled some of our old wrapping paper out of storage. And made a fabulous ball gown.
